School and Training

I was accepted to the Kubert School in February of 2023. I am currently attending the school as a full time student in my first year and loving every minute of it. If you want to learn more about my time there, I post weekly updates on my experience at Kubert in the blog section of this website.

In addition to being a full time student, I have attended a number of online courses at the Kubert School. By my account, I've taken Basic Drawing 1, Basic Drawing 2, Inking Comics, and Producing Comics. Despite the fact that they were held online, these classes were tremendously helpful, and I still felt like I got to know the teachers and students in each class to some degree. In addition to the online classes, I also attended the Kubert School Summer Intensive in person this July. This a whole month of drawing, writing, inking, lettering, and coloring comics 6 hours a day, 5 days a week for a whole month. This wasn't just  a great way to learn about creating comics, it was a way for me to get to know the school a bit, and it ultimately led me to decide to go to The Kubert School full time after high school.

Between the online classes, the intensive, and, of course, attending the school full time, The Joe Kubert School has been and will continue to be a major part of my art education.

Stan Prokopenko's online courses have helped me improve quickly, and have provided a convenient and excellent way to learn drawing. I had been watching Stan's videos on youtube for years, and after a while I decided to purchase a few of his premium courses off his website. Best. Decision. Ever. I purchased (or more accurately my dad purchased for me) the Anatomy Course, the Portrait Drawing Course, and the Figure Drawing Course. These courses also came with over 1,000 professional model photos to draw from, which I reference constantly. All three of these courses are phenomenal, but the Figure Drawing Course in particular has been a massive resource for me ever since I got it. I would boldly say that I have learned more from the Proko Figure Drawing course than I have from any other art class, art book, or online class. In the course, Stan masterfully lays out an entire figure drawing curriculum which gracefully leads you from figure drawing basics, all the way to professional level figure drawing skills. I have grown tremendously as an artist just by following the courses on Proko, it has been a crucial part of my art learning.

In addition to all the art classes I've taken, Art Books have been a hugely important resource for me.

Draftsmen

In 2019, Stan Prokopenko and Marshall Vandruff created the greatest art podcast of all time, Draftsmen. I have been listening to this podcast since episode 1, and every episode from then right up until the final episode hit it out of the park. Not only are they fun and easy to listen to, but they are also incredibly informative. I feel like I have learned an enormous amount about teaching, learning, and creating art just by having this on in the background while I draw. If you are interested in art of any kind I cannot recommend this podcast enough!

BOston comics roundtable

The Boston Comics Roundtable (BCR) is an extraordinary group of people who host weekly meetings to discuss, present, create, and critique comics. I have been attending these meetings since 2019, and it has proven a great resource for networking and getting feedback on my current comic book endeavours. The meetings used to be held in person at Lesley University, but since COVID, they have been hosting their meetings online through Discord. If you are interested interested in comics in any way, it is a no brainer to join their group. You can find them through facebook, their discord server, or their website.
